Getting old isn’t for the weak of heart.

I had a cardiac ablation last week.

That’s when some heart tissue or nerves are destroyed to improve heart function.

I had the ablation because my heart rate would accelerate to 215 bpm whenever I exercised.

Not fun.

Before that, about 18 months ago,  I experienced a TIA (small stroke) and then it was discovered I had a grade 5 PFO (congenital hole in my heart ).  Once that was repaired with a patch, my accelerated bpm started.

I am  all good now  and I am ready to get on with my life.

I recently attended the Functional Aging Conference.  I have been a certified Functional Aging Specialist for a long time, but this conference introduced new ways of thinking and doing that will change the way I workout, eat and behave. It was a fitness conference but the mood was clearly Wellness Over Fitness.

This is what I learned I should incorporate into my life if I want to Age Well:

  • Move.  I don’t have to be in the gym or on the track. Just keep moving, whether it be gardening, walking, dancing, climbing stairs, counts
  • Create a list of  my top ten priorities for the next 10 years
  • Think about what brings me joy each and every day and do it
  • Believe I have the capacity to lead a purpose filled and engaged life after 50
  • Spend time with others, socialize
  • Get outside
  • Try new things
  •  Be mindful, meditate and find purpose

I hope this is helpful. My goal is to empower you, lift you up and make an impact. Promoting the flavor of the day is not for me. I want to be authentic and trustworthy.
